Learning to let go


Enlightened firms nowadays understand the importance of relaxing rules about where employees do their work—whether at home, the office or elsewhere. In the future, they will have to learn to relax management rules about how employees do their jobs. It may go against the grain, but tomorrow's bosses will have to share management responsibility with other members of their staff for the sake of productivity.

How do you reward employees for sharing information rather than hoarding it; and how do you encourage them to think resourcefully rather than simply to obey instructions?

I think it is a question of leadership. If you have a boss that always has the last word your opinion is worthless. As soon as ideas are interesting people open up and share information.

I do agree. If you think your opinion will be listened to and taken into consideration, then you want to share them. Also, if it's company policy to share information you'll feel involved in what's happening around you and you'll want to take active part in it so you'll share information yourself.
