Can coal clean up its act?

Coal is the most plentiful fossil fuel, and provides the cheapest means to generate electricity. It also has the reputation of being the dirtiest. New technologies for converting coal into ultra-clean gas and for capturing any resultant CO2 emissions offer a way to continue to use coal as the main fuel for the world's expanding power needs, while meeting the challenge of curbing pollution.

All Categories > Clean Coal > For less pollution, less hazardous mining convert under ground mine into opencast mine.-This will enable us to exploit the coal energy in a more environmental-friendly-path.Do you agree?

Subject: Would more widespread use of open-cast coal mining contribute to making the coal industry safer and more environmentally friendly?
Indeed, we are driving ourselves to a situation to make use of all forms fossil -fuel.Still underground mining in the form of SHAFT,TUNNEL,INCLINE etc. are the constant tug-of-war between man and nature.HEALTH,SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT aspects of UG MINES are still in the hands of luck and nature's grace. We agree that all under ground mines will be open cast mines one day.Better start mine as a open cast mine ,work safely, do all the experiment on the coal bed itself with
safety precautions. This will help us especially in gassy- mines.I invite a debate on 'mining as open cast is more safe, more viable in the future rather than mining as shaft, tunnel, incline etc.'-Agree or Disagree?

Coal mining has always been a dirty and hazardous industry, and in China alone more than 6,000 miners lose their lives every year in accidents, mainly in small mines operated by private firms and collectives. The choice between underground or open-cast mining depends ultimately on geological factors.
