Is there a future for hydrogen fuel cells?

The widespread use of hydrogen fuel cells for vehicles and in the home is starting to look increasingly feasible, in light of recent technological advances. The benefits would be enormous, as hydrogen is the most plentiful element in the universe, and the only by-products of the chemical reaction that takes place within the cells are steam and water. And yet, producing hydrogen is itself energy-intensive, and building the infrastructure for a hydrogen-based energy economy will be enormously expensive. Will governments, companies and taxpayers be prepared to foot the bill, or will technical glitches, prohibitive costs and vested interests mean that the hydrogen solution remains wishful thinking?

Subject: Hydrogen developments
The European Hydrogen Association, a lobbying group for the spread of hydrogen use in the EU, provides a useful source for new developments in this area. In its latest release it outlines steps being taken to draft EU-wide regulations on the use of hydrogen fuel cells in vehicles, as well as giving updates on hydrogen-related developments in various EU countries--mainly involving the spread of fuel cell stations--and in relation to numerous corporate initiatives. Their site is www.h2euro.org.

Hydrogen use can be popularised by fiiting cars running on conventional fuels with Hydrogen conversion Kit. This will be useful for the motorist is a way that the person need not wait for refuelling at a particular station or drive 20 KM to refill.

R&D on fitting tanks & engine modification of the existing cars can be undertaken in order to use more & more Hydrogen as a fuel by motorists. To detect leakage, smelly compound like MARKAPTAN may be used.
