The Shell Economist Writing Prize has proved to be a great success, attracting more than 15,000 entries in the first year alone and providing undiscovered writers with a valuable showcase for their talent. This year, to celebrate five years of the prize, we have commissioned recordings of winning essays which you can listen to on this site. The essays are read by some of the most recognizable voices in the media: Sanjeev Bhaskar, Dame Helen Mirren, Richard Dreyfuss, Robbie Coltrane, John Humphrys and Jerry Hall.
